Our kids are learning Algebra and Calculus, are expected to memorize the periodic table and to read Shakespeare. Their marching-band routines are ever more complicated, and they are supposed to know all the plays in the playbook. But when it comes to church, we say, "Don't bother me with the details."

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

Matthew 11:25-30

In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

"At that time Jesus said, 'I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.'"

What are these things that Jesus is talking about? Who are the wise and learned? Who are the little children? All very good questions, and their answers will help to explain this passage from St. Matthew's Gospel. So, let us be about the task of answering them.
