Atlantis ‹the domain of the Stingray›
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.

Surely God is My Salvation

Isaiah 12:2-6

Many will recognize this as The First Song of Isaiah. I was planning the mid-week Lenten services for this year, based upon the Service of Prayer and Preaching, and it called for a canticle based on Isaiah 12:2-6. None of the readily available sources in my congregations had a hymn based on this text except for one with a difficult tune out of a hymnal supplement that only one of my congregations had; and this one was even copyrighted, so it couldn't easily be copied for use at the other congregation. So, I sought to write a hymn myself based on this text for use in the services.

How did I settle on those tunes? Well, as I wrote the first phrase, I wrote it singing it to the first tune, without realizing what tune I was using. So, I scrambled to find the tune, writing the second and third phrases and getting the meter, then searching a hymnal index for the tunes that matched that meter. While looking at all the tunes in that meter in the index (a grand whopping total of 4), I thought that the second tune also matched the words well enough.

Superbowl Thoughts

on the media obsession with race

Congratulations to the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts (truth be told, I was hoping for a Chicago-New England Superbowl). Congratulations to Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy. I might actually watch the Superbowl; either way, I'll be cheering for "Da Bears."

It's Great to be a Florida Gator

The University of Florida Gators

It's a good year to be a Gator. First, the basketball team wins the SEC Championship, followed by the National Championship. Then, the football team wins the SEC Championship; now, they've won the BCS National Championship.

Oh yeah, this is the 100th year of Gator football, too. What a way to celbrate!

GO GATORS!

While it is true I enjoy the Tennessee Whiskey from time to time, that's not what this post is about. While this site does use the Jack Daniels typeface for its logo, that's not what the site is about.

If you've ever wondered how to write a specific line of code for web page development (be it css, php, MySQL, even mod_rewrite), then this site is for you. Its come in handy a time or two for me with all of those web coding languages (well, except for MySQL).

There are also a few "cheat sheets" as they are called for other things, such as World of Warcraft.

Oh yeah, by the way, the site is is I Love Jack Daniels, at www.ilovejackdaniels.com.
