Florida Owns Ohio State
football and basketball
41-14.
84-75.
Need I say more?
It began on November 9, 2005. Florida basketball posted an 80-51 win over St. Peter's to start the 2005-2006 NCAA basketball season. Along the way, they won the SEC Championship with a 49-47 win over South Carolina, giving them a 27-6 record going into the NCAA tournament. The season culminated with a 73-57 win over UCLA, gaining the school it's first-ever basketball National Championship.
The next part of the story began on September 2, 2006. Florida football posted a 34-7 win over Southern Mississippi to start the 2006 NCAA football season. Along the way, they won the SEC Championship with a 38-28 win over Arkansas. The only blemish on the year was a 27-17 loss at Auburn (the game was actually closer than that score). They took a 12-1 record into the bowl season, securing a spot in a BCS bowl thanks to winning the conference; they would be selected to play Ohio State in the National Championship game. The season ended with the Gators handing Ohio State a 41-14 loss, gaining the school with it's second football National Title; a fitting end to a year that was a celebration of 100 years of Florida football.
Thus, the University of Florida became the first Division 1-A school to hold the National Titles in both basketball and football in the same calendar year. 2006 was the Year-of-the-Gator.
The next chapter in the story began on November 10, 2006. Florida basketball posted a 79-54 win over Samford to start the 2006-2007 NCAA basketball season. Along the way, they won the SEC Championship with a 77-56 win over Arkansas, giving them a 29-5 record going into the NCAA tournament. The season culminated this evening with a 84-75 win over Ohio State, gaining the school its second consecutive National Title (the first in Division 1-A basketball since Duke in 1991 and 1992).
In winning the 2007 basketball National Title, Florida became the first school to hold the National Titles in both basketball and football in the same academic year. The Year-of-the-Gator continues.
It's great to be a Florida Gator (Gator haters have got to be tired hearing that, and I don't care)!
