Things That Make You Go Hmmmm

Antichrist

The word antichrist (notice I didn't capitalize it) appears infrequently in the Bible. Outside of First and Second John, there are various references to an antichrist sentiment, person, or idea. What's important to note is that Scripture plainly teaches that anyone or anything that opposes Jesus as the Christ sent by God to redeem His creation from sin is anti-Christ. No one is specifically named. There is no definitive singular entity named or identified as the Antichrist.

Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour...I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
1 John 2:18, 21-23
This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
1 John 4:2, 3
Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.
2 John 1:7

I often say doing a Google search for theological subject matter is a crash course in disaster. There are myriad and multitude things out there on the internet claiming to be truth which simply aren't. There are myriad and multitude things out there which are utterly fantastic (as in fantasy, not the good connotation). One such search would be for antichrist.

Performing such a search would yield results for signs of the antichrist (some even giving you a number). Some results will even try to make a connection between a figurehead (be it political, religious, or whatever) and "the antichrist". Not so surprising is that many of those "connection" results wish to pin the label antichrist on BO.

It's not surprising because he is such a polarizing figure. It's not surprising because there is a messianic air about the man. And, it's not surprising because of those signs mentioned, which can be derived from Scripture, he meets or nearly meets them, depending on how literal or figurative you want to take the signs or O's characteristics.

Then, O goes and does this. He spoke at Georgetown University. Note that Georgetown is a Roman Catholic university, of the Jesuit tradition. Naturally, it would be expected that there would be Christian symbols scattered all around the campus. But, at the place where O was speaking, those symbols were covered and hidden at the request of the White House. Yes, irrefutable proof that O denies the Christ, or so it would seem. (It's almost ironic that in the photo shown with that article, O almost looks like the depiction of "The Antichrist" in those Millenialist movies about the end times.)

Putting the best spin possible on the situation (see the 8th Commandment and Luther's explanation), it might be nothing more than a horribly ignorant attempt on O's part to be politically correct. I could be wrong, though, and there may be something more irreputable going on.

There is another party in all of this, though. Georgetown University shares the blame and responsibility for this, too. Chief of all, why did they bow to the request? Again, it could all be a horribly ignorant attempt at being politically correct, this time on Georgetown University's part. But, again, why do this? It only shows shame for their Christian identity. It is, in fact, an antichristian (not so much against Christians, but against that which is of Christ) thing to do.

Bear in mind, though, that O does possess something of a messianic charisma (as already mentioned). I asked why Georgetown bowed to the request. That might be the answer. Supposedly, this charisma and ability to command such respect (in defiance of normalcy, for lack of a better word) is in keeping with one of those many signs of "the antichrist".

Does this make O an antichrist, or "the antichrist"? Well, maybe. Do I think he is antichrist? Absolutely! His stance on unborn life (even newly born life) is completely antichristian (again, not so much against Christians, but against that which is of Christ).

Things that make you go, "hmmmm."
