I got to do something today I have been wanting to do for as long as I have been in the ministry. At both places previous to this current location I have pleaded with my people to let me do this.

I got to work beside a parishioner at his job.

Especially in South Dakota, I told the people that, if they were willing, I would love to spend a day working with them, on the farm, where they work, etc. It would have given each of us an opportunity to get to know each other. It would have given each of us an opportunity to better understand each other. In South Dakota and Oregon, there were no takers.

I haven't made such a plea here in Colorado, though. Mostly because I was called here as a worker-priest, and I didn't want this plea to be heard as a request for a second job, which I need. Here, though, since I am still looking for a second job, the parishioner approached me with the offer.

Today, on the way back home, he asked if I would be willing to do more of this, should he need another set of hands (on a similar job). I said yes, of course, so long as I am not hired to a more permanent part-time job.

It's hard, manual labor. He works with X-ray equipment. Today, we were moving a chiropractor's machine from his current office to his new office. Tomorrow, we complete the install.
