What I Did This Week, no. 47

busy, busy, busy

Little office time, but lots of work; that phrase exemplifies this week. There was a shut-in visit and a meeting up north. In all, I got two days in my office, and though I’ve fared well with so little time in the past, it didn’t work out too well for me this week. Still, it all worked out, and it was a pretty good week, I’d say.

Sunday – It was the Second-Last Sunday of the Church Year, and the lesson was the sheep and the goats, one of my favorites. In the past, I’ve spent a lot of time talking about who the “least of these my brothers” are, but this year it was all about mankind’s gravitation to the law. Of course, I don’t need to tell it all here, as you can read or listen to the sermon, since it is posted.

Monday – My sabbath—a day to look back at my work and enjoy the fruits of my labors. Rest is a good thing, and this was a day of good rest...and griddle cakes.

Tuesday – So, I was able to spend a little time in the office, but not a whole lot. It was just enough to send out an email and make a few corrections to some things. Today was scheduled a shut-in visit, so in short order, off I went to that. After getting back home, it was off to the library, and from there to Target for a Disney’s Frozen “event.” You could have your picture taken (read: take your kids’ pictures) in front of a Frozen backdrop. Still, I think we all enjoyed getting out for a bit.

Wednesday – So, I was able to spend some time in the office today. Finally, a look at Sunday’s text—the ten virgins. My head couldn’t wrap itself around it too well, but I hit the books. Of course, I also had to plan for tonight. Back home for a bit, and just as I’m about to leave, I get a text and a phone call. There won’t be class tonight. But, we were graced with a house guest: dog sitting. The night didn’t go so well, though.

Thursday – Up earlier than usual to let the dog out. She was so out of sorts, she didn’t want to do anything. Of course, back inside, she wasn’t cooperative with the family. I had to head to Parker for Bible Study, and then from there to northern Denver for the Colorado Confessional Lutherans group. We made our way through Augsburg XX, Confutation XX, and started into Apology XX (part of Apology III/IV also deals with Augsburg and Confutation XX, which we’ll get to next month). I got home earlier than I expected, whereupon we took the dog back to her house, where we would let her sleep, checking in on her periodically.

Friday – Out earlier than usual to go check on the dog. From there, to the office where I hoped to perhaps come up with an idea on the ten virgins. Jesus uses the word “moron” (in Greek) to describe the foolish virgins, but I didn’t know how to make something of that, but I did have some help with it, so a sermon was written (with a lot of borrowed material). Back home to finish preparations, as we’re hosting Bible Study. We continued with Day 6 of creation with Luther’s lectures on Genesis; this section was, perhaps, a little better to understand.

Saturday – Today was a bit of a lazy day, though there was work to be done around the house. Things need to be straightened around the house. At the end of the day, however, the kids and I watched X-Men Days of Future Past as I prepared supper: meatloaf with roasted potato wedges and broccoli.
