Dear Barack Obama

What's to say a vote for you will matter?

Seriously, I'm tired of all of your political ads saying that we can change not only the White House, but all of Washington [D.C.], [merely by voting for you]. It's nothing but endless political rhetoric. The same goes for the rest of your message; we've heard it all before—reaching across the aisle, working together, etc. We've heard this for too many years already.

I doubt a vote for you will do that. I doubt you can do that. I'm not saying I believe you will or will not try. I'm saying I believe your promises will go unfulfilled. I'm saying I believe you're saying these things without any real hope of actually being able to accomplish them.

Ugh

You Mean It's Only Saturday?

I am so emotionally spent today it feels like a Sunday afternoon/evening. Then, I look at my computer's clock and see that it's only still Saturday. Hopefully, I won't go to bed thinking tomorrow will be Monday, or...

It's About Time

to ethanol or not to ethanol

Ask my wife, and she will tell you that I am not a fan of ethanol because of the larger negative impact it has on the price of everything. Ethanol is derived mostly from corn to be used mostly as a fuel and fuel additive; flex-fuel vehicles that run on E-85 (85% ethanol, 15% regular gasoline) are the primary users of ethanol as a fuel; though many fuel stations sell gasoline with some smaller percentage of ethanol for use in normal engines.

A Really Inconvenient Truth

What Al Gore Doesn't Want You to Know

Is climate change real? Sure, there are subtle changes happening all the time and should be expected. We live in a dynamic universe on a dynamic world—nothing is static; if it were, we wouldn't have daily high and low temperatures.

But is mankind responsible for any climate changes? Well, the answer there is "yes," too. We are as dynamic as the universe we live in—technological advances throughout the ages are testimony to that. We cannot help but have an affect in the environment in which we live, which is the principle known as the observer effect. But we must be cautious to say that we are the only cause, for we simply are not.

Now I Know

and knowing is half the battle

I like a recent trend in movies, at least, a trend I'm picking up on. It seems there has been a push to make live-action movies based on children's programs—specifically cartoons—from my own childhood. Some prominent examples are The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Transformers, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

It's going on in the television world, too. It seems to be, at least, in a different form it is—bringing back favorite television series, slightly re-envisioned. For example, recently, a movie that is supposed to be the pilot episode of Knight Rider aired. This experiment was also tried with Battlestar Galactica (a success, though I'm no longer a fan of it) and Bionic Woman (seemingly unsuccessful).

Introducing a New Category

Sermons Title Image

For a while now, I've been "uploading" my sermons to a separate part of the site; well, some of them. They weren't a part of this blog; I simply put links to them in a menu above (along with poems and hymns I've written).

Well, now, I've created a category to put my sermons right on the front page whenever I deem to include one on my site. I'll still put them in the separate part of the site (serving as a sort of archives for my sermon selections. Now, however, you can read new "uploads" right from the blog, and you can even comment on them, if you desire.

What Happened, Swift?

Did my page become too boring? I haven't seen any votes or hits from you since I posted about you.

Of course, from looking into things a little more, whoever it was voting was not a real user to begin with as Swift Ventures seems to host folks that use robots. By why run a robot to send karma votes?

In any event, thanks for not visiting!

Numbers

35.

47 million.

2,996.

229,866.

Choose Life

The first is the number of years since the Supreme Court rendered their opinion in Roe v. Wade. The second is the number of lives that have been lost to abortion since January 22, 1973. The third is the number of lives lost at the Twin Towers in the September 11 terrorist attacks. The fourth is the number of lives lost as a result of the tsunami on December 26, 2004.

Yes, that's over 200 times more lives lost to abortion than those other two tragedies, combined.

Choose life.

Tim Tebow: A Class Act

And the 2007 Heisman Trophy Winner

Congratulations Tim Tebow! You've done the Gator Nation proud. And you've done those of your faith proud.

You've got a great set of priorities. You've got a God who loves you and sent His Son to die for you. You've got a terrific set of parents. You have unheard-of football talent. And now, you've got the Heisman Trophy.

Now, I just read this article on ESPN.com, and I really like this quote:

Tebow becomes the third Florida quarterback to win the Heisman and, as a result, every preacher in the Sunshine State will have his son throwing on Sunday. All three Gators quarterbacks who won the Heisman -- Steve Spurrier (1966), Wuerffel (1996) and Tebow -- are the sons of clergymen.

Looks like I'll be tossing the "ol' pigskin" with Robert one of these days very soon (okay, we've already played around with a football). I mean, I know I'm not in the Sunshine State, but I am "from" the Sunshine State. And I would love to send my son to the University of Florida.

We Survived

Honestly, We Didn't Have it Bad

Our new home area has made national news the last few days. Two storms rolled in on Sunday and Monday. Sunday's high winds in Lincoln City topped out at 50 or so mph; gusts to about 75. Monday was worse with winds has fast as 70 or so mph; gusts of roughly 100. Both of those were early morning winds as the breezes died down during the day both days (obviously on Monday).
