What I Did This Week, no. 8

here's the new format

It was a week I would rather not repeat. A week from hell. Sickness invaded the house, but the week ended with some recovery. I was able to get some gaming in, and I spent only one day in the office this week.

Sunday – I preached on the Septuagesima text from Matthew 20. The Roman Church likes (or used to like) to use this text to prove their idea of works righteousness. Ironic, since the text shows that the landowner gives to his workers not based on their works—they all get the same pay regardless of how much or how long they worked.

Monday – It’s my day off. I really didn’t do much of anything. Tirzah, on the other hand, decided to get sick. The poor baby couldn’t keep anything down.

Tuesday – Molly caught the bug today. She woke up having puked in her bed. I had already decided that I should probably stay home to help out here, but her getting sick sealed the deal. Of course, it only got worse as Genevieve also caught it later this evening. Robert was able to play some LEGO Movie Videogame today, though he did get stuck at a glitch in the game. When I backed him out of it, I decided to download and install the system update for the PS4.

Wednesday – Another day at home as Genevieve and the littles recover. Thankfully, I escaped the bug, or so it seems. There were times I felt queasy, but I never needed to vomit. The big kids also were spared, so far. One thing is for certain: I do not have what it takes to be Mr. Mom. I also feel out-of-place when I don’t get to do my work. Thankfully, there was no Confessions study this evening as we had finished last week at a good stopping point before Lent starts. Mikaela got to play some LEGO Movie Videogame today.

Thursday – I got to go back to work, though it was a long day away from the office—away from Elizabeth, even. The morning was an early start for Breakfast Bible Study at IHOP in Parker. We had gotten some winter precipitation overnight; Elbert county was a sheet of ice, but I navigated it without trouble in the truck. From Parker, it was up to northern Denver for the Colorado Confessional Lutherans group. Good news on the truck front, too: there was no hesitation the entire day, so it most likely was water in the distributor cap, and it finally dried out.

Friday – My first day in the office this week also happened to be my last day in the office this week. I barely had any time or initiative to do much in the way of preparing a sermon for Sunday, so I borrowed one from a brother-in-office. I did read a little Luther on the text from Luke 8 (the four soil types), but beyond that I wasn’t able to collect my thoughts, thanks in part to how the rest of the week went. So, I got that put together for Sunday. I emailed the CCL group about our next meeting. And I kept tabs on the Canada-USA Olympic hockey game; that was disappointing, very disappointing. The evening saw Bible Study; we were supposed to host, but not with a sickly house.

Saturday – It was a lazy Saturday, sort of. Tirzah woke up about the time we went to bed and nursed all night. In the morning, Robert came down thinking he needed to vomit. Here we go again, right? Not so fast, he recovered quickly. I spent my time playing LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on the PS4, though I did get a game of NHL 14 in, finishing round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in my Be-a-GM mode. Speaking of disappointing (see yesterday), what happened to Team USA? I watched a few Stargate episodes; two from season 8 of SG-1, two from season 1 of Atlantis. While I watched them, I did some work on the new layout for my website. It’s coming together nicely.
