What I Did This Week, no. 9

the turnaround

This was a good week, compared the last week. Things were slowly getting back to normal as half the family recovered from whatever ugly bug was caught last week. It was a pretty routine week at work, too, for the week before Lent, that is.

Sunday – It was Sexagesima. Given my time out of the office the last week, I ended up borrowing a sermon as more of my time and effort went to caring for sick family members than my job. After church, it was the usual fare, too. Catechesis with a young lady who really wants to be here. The catechesis with two boys (one being Robert) who I hope really want to be here. I ended up going to Safeway when all was done to pick up some things, though I wanted to be home quickly to relax for the rest of the day. After shopping, I was able to.

Monday – A good day off. I finally bit the bullet and bought some “second hand” tickets to Sunday’s game as the Lightning will be in Denver to take on the Avalanche. I wanted to bring at least the two big kids, but I couldn’t get just three tickets—two or four, only. I got four, then looked for ways to use the fourth ticket. Then the idea was presented, what if the whole family went. So, I contacted the Pepsi Center; children two and under can stay on laps without a ticket, so we all get to go! The rest of the day was spent playing some video games—something LEGO.

Tuesday – Back in the office for the usual rigamaroll. Knowing that it was near the end of the month, and that Lent was coming on fast, I worked on planning hymns for May with an eye toward planning June later this week. I like to be prepared at least for the next three months, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to take a day to do this during the season of Lent. Back home again, and I was able to wind down some and play some more LEGO video game—LEGO Marvel Superheroes on the PS4.

Wednesday – It was a strange day not to have something going on this evening for the second Wednesday in a row. Of course, two weeks ago, we came to a good breaking point in our Lutheran Confessions Study before Lent started. Normally, I have the classes scheduled through two weeks before the season starts, which would have been last week. Time in the office was spent looking at the text for Sunday, Quinquagesima. It wasn’t long before an idea came to me, which I then judged to be viable based on a closer study of the text. So, what was I to do with the rest of my day?

Thursday – Today was pancake day. I actually had pancakes, too, as we finished our study of Daniel. Once I got back to the office, I planned the hymns for June. We’re set, now for a few months, and I can breathe a little easier through Lent. I also played around with the network settings at church; I think I improved the network a bit doing so. Back at home, I spent some time making some minor tweaks to the website layout you are seeing now. I was supposed to meet with a member, but the way their day went never allowed it.

Friday – Before going anywhere, I won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in my NHL 14 Be-a-GM mode, then the Calder Cup with Tampa’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. Interestingly, I played again Chicago for the Stanley Cup, and the Blackhawk’s AHL affiliate, rockford for the Calder Cup. Finally, time to go into the office; it was sermon prep day. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to get it done, too. Once that was done, I made sure that the hymns that would be inserts for this month were ready. It was a very productive day. Back home for a bit, and Genevieve to Mikaela and Tirzah to do some shopping. While I stayed home, Robert played some LEGO Movie Videogame. Soon, however, it was time to go to Bible Study. Today’s study of the Wisdom of Solomon actually turned out pretty interesting; more than in times past reading this book we heard some passages that were familiar to us from the Scriptures, both Old Testament prophets and some of Paul’s letters.

Saturday – It’s live! Early in the morning (like before going to bed for the night), I made the switch on my website to version 4.0. When it was time for normal people to be awake, I spent some time in the draft in my NHL 14 Be-a-GM mode. Otherwise, it was a nice, lazy Saturday.
